Peggy Chiao is a film producer, professor and writer based in Taiwan but producing films from Taiwan and China. With a MA degree from UT Austin and Ph.D program at UCLA, Chiao is a major force in Chinese-language cinema and film studies, having 20 features, 5 documentaries, 3 television series and 70 publications under her belt. She is widely reputed for championing the Taiwan New Wave in the 1980?s by successfully introducing festival-favorites such as directors HOU Hsiao-Hsien, Edward YANG, TSAI Ming-Liang, ZHANG Zuo-Ji, LIN Cheng-Sheng and XIAO Ya-Quan. Chiao also helped China’s 5th and 6th Generation filmmakers to be recognized by the international stage, including WANG Xiao-Shuai, LIU Fen-Dou, LI Yu, TIAN Zhuang-Zhuang and LI Shao-Hong.
